In ADHD relationships, timing can be a tricky issue, especially when one partner’s well-meaning gestures don’t quite align with the other’s needs. For example, after a long week of work, I might just want to relax at home, but a casual conversation with my ADHD spouse can lead him thinking I’m hinting at planning something fun for the weekend. While this kind of timing mismatch happens in all relationships, it can be particularly challenging in ADHD relationship. When our ADHD partner's efforts to do something nice are met with disapproval, it can discourage them from trying to do more in the future, creating a cycle of frustration for both partners.
